Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein confirmed on Monday that he held talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, covering several issues, most notably the project to extend an Iraqi oil pipeline across Syrian territory.
Hussein told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The visit included bilateral meetings with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Energy."
He added: "Our discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and addressing economic issues, primarily the construction of an Iraqi oil pipeline through Syria, in addition to discussing joint security and agricultural matters."
The Foreign Minister indicated that "the talks focused primarily on the oil pipelines extending to the Banias refinery," explaining that "discussions were held with the Syrian government regarding this project, which will be implemented under the auspices of foreign companies and in coordination with experts and specialists from both the Iraqi and Syrian sides."
