NYT: Trump switched planes in Turkey over Iran threat
US President Donald Trump switched aircraft while leaving Turkey this month after US officials identified a credible threat from “Iranian proxies” targeting him and Air Force One, The New York Times has reported.
According to the newspaper, Trump had flown to Ankara for the Nato summit aboard a Qatari-donated Boeing 747-8, which lacks some of the advanced defensive capabilities of the older Air Force One aircraft.
After the threat emerged, the US Secret Service urged Trump to change planes before departing, the report said.
The New York Times, citing people briefed on the matter, said the intelligence suggested “Iranian proxy forces” were targeting Trump and whichever aircraft he was travelling in, rather than the new plane specifically.
