US and Iranian strikes extended into Sunday as America said it sought to "punish" the Islamic republic for killing two US servicemen at a base in Jordan, and Gulf states said they responded to Iranian attacks.
Its CENTCOM military command said they were partly to "punish" Iran for an attack it waged on Friday on a base in Jordan which killed two US soldiers and left another missing in action.
