US President Donald Trump asserted on Thursday that the United States spends money on NATO for their protection without any benefit.

In a post followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Trump stated, "The United States spends more money on NATO than any other country, by a considerable margin, for its protection, without receiving any benefit."

He added, "The United States spends $999 billion, the United Kingdom $90.5 billion, France $66.5 billion, Italy $48.8 billion, and Poland $44.3 billion."

Trump pointed out that "other countries, including Germany, spend far less," describing it as "ridiculous."
