The General Authority of Customs announced on Monday that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 24 Visa cards found in the possession of a female traveler at the Customs Center of Baghdad International Airport.

According to a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the operation came under the direct guidance of Customs Director General Thamer Qasim Dawood as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight at border customs centers and airports through enhanced inspection and screening procedures for passengers and luggage. The measures aim to prevent smuggling attempts, protect the national economy, and ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The statement explained that customs officers at the airport apprehended a female passenger in the Samarra Departure Hall who was preparing to travel to the United Arab Emirates. A thorough inspection revealed 24 Visa cards concealed beneath her clothing in an attempt to take them out of the country in violation of regulations and instructions.

The authority confirmed that the seizure was carried out in cooperation with the Directorate of Airport Security and Protection, with support from the Customs Police, as part of joint coordination among the relevant agencies to enhance the efficiency of security and customs procedures and curb smuggling activities and violations.
