The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Adnan Faihan Al-Dulaimi, confirmed on Friday that Parliament will be following up on the Speicher massacre case.

Al-Dulaimi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “On the twelfth anniversary of the Speicher massacre, we stand today with reverence and humility before hundreds of martyrs who were unjustly and brutally killed.”

It added: “That tragedy remains a bleeding wound in the nation’s memory, through which we recall scenes of pain and loss, and remember the scale of the catastrophe that struck young men who carried their dreams and hopes of serving their country,their pure blood was shed in one of the most heinous crimes in modern Iraqi history.”

It continued: “On this painful occasion, we renew our pledge that their cause will remain alive in the national conscience, and that achieving justice, bringing the perpetrators and those involved to account, and holding accountable those responsible or negligent is a national and legal duty borne by the relevant state institutions parliament will continue to follow up on and monitor their performance and the fulfillment of their duties.”
