Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed on Friday that the government is working to guarantee the rights of the Speicher martyrs and to commemorate their sacrifices.
Al-Zaidi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA),”On June 12 of every year, we stand with reverence and solemnity to commemorate a painful memory, one of the most heinous crimes in Iraq’s modern history, when the criminal ISIS terrorist gangs carried out the Speicher massacre, claiming the lives of innocent young Iraqis in a brutal crime that targeted humanity, the homeland, and all human values.”
It added,”This tragedy will remain a testament to the scale of terrorism’s crimes against our people, and the memory of the Speicher martyrs will forever live in the conscience of all Iraqis as a symbol of sacrifice and resilience, and an emblem of Iraqi unity in the face of the forces of darkness and extremism.”
The statement explained ,” On this solemn day, we reaffirm that the government places the rights of the martyrs’ families at the forefront of its priorities and works through all available means to guarantee their legal and moral rights, care for their families, and honor their sacrifices in a manner befitting their great national standing.”
It added,”Through the sacrifices of our martyrs and the courage of our security forces across all branches and formations, Iraqis have proven their ability to defeat terrorism and bury its plots. Our national responsibility compels us to continue combating the rhetoric of extremism, strengthening security and stability, consolidating state sovereignty and authority, restricting arms to state authority, reinforcing the role of state institutions, and safeguarding civil peace.”
It pointed out that,” We further affirm our commitment to building a strong and just state grounded in the rule of law and respect for rights and freedoms, continuing the path of economic and service development, and providing a dignified life for its citizens, alongside a balanced foreign policy based on respect for sovereignty, shared interests, and the building of strong international relations that serve Iraq’s standing and its people.
Honoring the sacrifice of our martyrs means transforming their sacrifices into a force that strengthens national unity, builds state institutions, protects the gains secured through their pure blood, and ensures that such crimes are never repeated.
May Allah’s mercy and eternal glory be upon the righteous martyrs of Speicher and upon all the martyrs of Iraq.
