The head of the committee commemorating the Speicher martyrs, Mu'in al-Kadhim, confirmed on Friday that 1,250 remains of martyrs of the Speicher massacre have been recovered in the city of Tikrit, while noting that the largest number of martyrs' remains are still missing.

Al-Kadhimi said during a speech at the annual memorial ceremony on the twelfth anniversary of the Speicher tragedy in Tikrit, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "the process of recovering the martyrs' remains began after the liberation of Tikrit,the remains of 1,250 martyrs were recovered and handed over to their families after DNA testing was conducted."

He added that "efforts to pursue the criminals from the remnants of the Baath regime and the terrorists involved in carrying out the Speicher crime have resulted in the arrest of more than 150 perpetrators,”He noted that "72 of those perpetrators have been executed after being convicted, while the remaining individuals are still awaiting just punishment."

Al-Kadhimi called for justice for the families of the martyrs by granting them their full rights, building memorials in their governorates to commemorate the sacrifices of the martyrs, documenting their heroic stories, and distributing residential land plots to those who have not yet received them.
