President Nizar Amedi and the head of the Supreme Judicial Council)SJC), Judge Faiq Zaidan, discussed on Wednesday a number of legal files that will be discussed at a meeting of the presidencies soon.
The Judicial Council stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zidan, received the President of the Republic, Nizar Amidi, and during the meeting they discussed a number of legal files that will be discussed in the meeting of the presidencies scheduled to be held soon.”
The Iraqi Presidency's Media Office stated in a separate statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "During the meeting, the two presidents reviewed the general situation in the country and emphasized the importance of the rule of law and preserving the independence of the judiciary."
According to the statement, the President of the Republic indicated "the Presidency's commitment to supporting the judiciary and enabling it to perform its constitutional duties in a way that contributes to safeguarding citizens' rights and strengthening the foundations of justice," praising "the role played by the judicial institution in protecting the constitutional order and enhancing citizens' trust in state institutions."
It stressed "the necessity of concerted efforts among political forces and prioritizing the public interest in order to complete the formation of the current government and enable it to implement its program and priorities related to living conditions and services, and to preserve the country's sovereignty."
For his part, Judge Faiq Zidan affirmed that "the Supreme Judicial Council performs its duties independently in accordance with the law and the constitution," noting "the Council's commitment to achieving justice, protecting rights and freedoms, and guaranteeing the interests of citizens."
