Baghdad-INA
Diyala Police Command announced on Monday the arrest of two suspects involved in a human trafficking crime.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the command said the operation was carried out in implementation of directives issued by Diyala Police Chief Major General Mohammed Kazem Atiyah and under his direct supervision.
The statement added that anti-human trafficking units in Diyala, in cooperation with Al-Adheem Police Department and Diyala Intelligence Directorate, succeeded in arresting the two suspects involved in human trafficking activities.
It noted that the arrests came following intelligence efforts and precise investigations, which revealed that the suspects had transported foreign nationals into the country in violation of residency regulations, in cooperation with gangs and networks specialized in human trafficking crimes.
The statement said arrest warrants had been issued against the suspects in accordance with the Anti-Human Trafficking Law No. 28 of 2012, and that legal measures were taken against them before referring them to the competent judicial authorities.
The Diyala Police Command affirmed its continued pursuit of organized crime networks, particularly human trafficking gangs, and stressed that deterrent legal measures would be taken against anyone attempting to exploit others or violate applicable laws in order to preserve the security and stability of society.
