Cuba has described new sanctions announced by the United States as “illegal” and “arbitrary,” amid heightened tensions between the two countries, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez wrote on the platform X that “the government of the United States issues warnings and responds by adopting unilateral, illegal and arbitrary measures against Cuba.”

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday announced the tightening of sanctions on Cuba, stating that the island “continues to pose an extraordinary threat” to U.S. national security, according to his remarks.
