Baghdad -INA

The Federal Integrity Commission announced on Thursday that a two-year prison sentence has been issued against MP Mohammed al-Karbouli for bribery.

A statement from the Commission, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued a two-year prison sentence against the convicted current Member of Parliament, Mohammed Nasser Dali al-Karbouli, along with a fine of ten million dinars. This sentence stems from his demand for $50,000 in exchange for intervening to close investigative committees formed against the complainant in the First Karkh Education Directorate and allowing him to remain in his position as a school principal."

He added that "the court, after reviewing the evidence and proofs in the case, concluded that the evidence obtained was sufficient and convincing to convict the accused, and issued its decision to sentence him in accordance with the provisions of Resolution No. (160 of 1983)."
