The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Adnan Faihan, directed on Monday that officials concerned with the incident of the martyrdom of one of the Iraqi fishermen be hosted.

The media office of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Adnan Faihan, issued a number of directives regarding the incident of the martyrdom of one of the Iraqi fishermen, as he directed the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee to host the Commander of the Naval Force, to learn the details of the incident, and the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee to host the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to explain the diplomatic and legal procedures that the Ministry has taken regarding it.”

It added that “Faihan also directed that a delegation of members of the House of Representatives be sent to Basra Governorate to visit the family of the martyred fisherman and offer their condolences and sympathy to them.”

According to the statement, Faihan stressed that “Parliament is giving this issue great attention and is following its developments in coordination with the relevant executive authorities, in order to ensure the protection of the lives of Iraqi citizens and to preserve Iraq’s interests and national sovereignty.”
