Iraqi President Nizar Amedi and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasized on Friday the necessity of ending wars and halting crises and tensions in the region.
A statement from the Iraqi President's Media Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "the President met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, in the Iranian capital, Tehran."
The statement added that "Amedi conveyed the condolences of the Iraqi people to the Iranian people on the martyrdom of His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, and a number of other leaders, officials, and citizens President Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated President Nizar Amedi on his election as President of the Republic of Iraq," expressing his "gratitude and appreciation for his attendance at the funeral ceremonies."
The President affirmed that "relations between Iraq and Iran are deeply intertwined historical, social, and cultural ties," emphasizing "the importance of joint efforts to strengthen and develop these relations in various fields, in a way that serves the interests of both friendly nations and contributes to the stability of the region."
The two presidents emphasized "the necessity of working to end wars and halt crises and tensions in the region through dialogue and diplomacy, and adopting peaceful solutions that enhance regional security and support the aspirations of the region's peoples for stability and development."
President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed "his appreciation for the Iraqi people and their noble sentiments during times of crisis and war," affirming "the Islamic Republic of Iran's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, in a way that serves the common interests of the two friendly nations."
