Araghchi discusses memorandum with French foreign minister

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot, discussed the implementation of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding and broader regional developments during a phone call, according to Iranian state media.

The IRIB broadcaster said the two ministers “reviewed and exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments” related to the agreement, which Tehran says is aimed at ending the conflict involving the United States and Israel.

The discussion came after Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi criticised comments by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding demining efforts in the Strait of Hormuz.

Gharibabadi said demining in the strategic waterway is solely Iran’s responsibility and added that “we fundamentally do not permit such a thing”.
