Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, emphasized on Saturday the importance of continued communication and coordination between Iraq and its regional neighbors.
Maliki's media office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadegh."
According to the statement, the meeting addressed "bilateral relations between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and ways to enhance joint cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of the two neighboring peoples, in addition to discussing the latest political and security developments in the region."
Maliki stressed "the importance of continued communication and coordination between Iraq and its regional neighbors, and supporting all efforts that strengthen Iraq's security and stability and preserve its sovereignty and national interests."
For his part, the Iranian ambassador affirmed "his country's keenness to develop relations with Iraq and enhance areas of cooperation and joint coordination between the two countries."
