Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed to his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed, Iraq's welcome of the understandings reached between Iran and the United States, while indicating that Iraq had adopted, from the outset, a firm position based on rejecting war and its continuation.

The Foreign Ministry's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed, during a telephone call on Wednesday with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them across various fields."

FM Hussein, according to the statement, affirmed the depth and importance of Iraqi-Emirati relations, stressing the need to continue developing them and enhancing joint cooperation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two countries and their brotherly peoples.

The minister reviewed Iraq's position on the recent regional developments, affirming that Iraq had, from the outset, adopted a firm position based on rejecting war, its continuation or expansion, and calling for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions, in addition to condemning the attacks that targeted the brotherly Gulf States.

Hussein pointed to Iraq's welcome of the understandings reached between the two parties to the conflict, expressing hope that they would contribute to enhancing security and stability in the region.

For his part, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed affirmed the United Arab Emirates' keenness to strengthen relations with the Republic of Iraq and further develop prospects for bilateral cooperation, wishing Iraq continued security, stability and prosperity.

The two sides also discussed regional and international developments of mutual interest, while Fuad Hussein referred to his contacts with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, regarding a number of issues related to the current situation.

At the conclusion of the call, Hussein confirmed that he would pay an official visit to the United Arab Emirates in the coming period as part of efforts to enhance consultation and coordination between the two countries.
