PM Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi held a phone call on Monday with the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen and develop them across various fields.
They addressed several files of shared interest, foremost among them oil exports via the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, and joint efforts to develop mechanisms for exporting Iraqi oil to European markets, according to a statement from the PM Media Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Both discussed the water file, affirming “the importance of continued dialogue and coordination to reach shared understandings and agreements that serve the interests of both countries, alongside discussions on signing cooperation agreements and memoranda in the fields of gas and agriculture, in a manner that strengthens the economic and development partnership between Iraq and Türkiye.”
The discussions included a mutual reaffirmation of the importance of the vital Development Road project and its strategic role in enhancing economic and trade connectivity between the two countries and the region, with both sides affirming their commitment to pressing ahead with its implementation, given its significance for both Iraq and Türkiye.
Erdogan renewed his invitation to Al-Zaidi to visit Ankara, expected to take place at the end of next July, with the aim of discussing bilateral files and strengthening cooperation across various fields, particularly with regard to commencing the implementation of the Development Road.
Al-Zaidi also extended an invitation to Turkish companies to invest in Iraq and take advantage of the available investment opportunities across various sectors, affirming the importance of the private sector's role in developing economic relations between the two countries.
