The head of the Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, affirmed on Monday that Iraq is poised to play a significant role in building regional understandings.

Sheikh Hamoudi's media office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the head of the Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, received the Lebanese Ambassador to Baghdad, Khalil Abdullah Muhammad, who expressed his gratitude to him, the Iraqi government, the Iraqi people, and their religious authorities for supporting the Lebanese people and their resilience," emphasizing that "the Iraqi stance has left a profound impact that history will remember."

According to the statement, the two sides discussed "regional developments and the prospects for bilateral relations, with Sheikh Hammoudi affirming that Lebanon, through its steadfast resistance against the most brutal Zionist aggression, has set a magnificent example that has upheld the dignity of the nation."

It emphasized "Iraq's commitment, both government and people, to continuing its support and contributing to the reconstruction of what was destroyed by the aggression, as well as to economic openness through the proposed oil pipeline project via its ports, and to strengthening trade and cultural exchange,” He noted that "Iraq is poised to play a significant role in building regional understandings that will enhance the stability of all its countries and open new horizons for partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests."
