President of the Republic Nizar Amedi on Sunday underscored the importance of developing Iraq's transport system and expanding its strategic infrastructure projects.

The Presidency's of the Republic Media Office said in a statement that President Amedi received Transport Minister Wahab al-Hasani at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.

The statement added that the meeting reviewed the current state of the transport sector in the country and prospects for its development in a manner that would improve services provided to citizens, in addition to addressing the main challenges facing the sector and ways to enhance the performance of institutions affiliated with the ministry.

According to the statement, the President stressed that the development of the transport system is a fundamental pillar and a vital artery of the national economy, emphasizing the need to expand strategic projects that strengthen internal and external connectivity and facilitate the movement of citizens and goods.

He also highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable strategic plans that keep pace with growth requirements and positively contribute to improving service standards and economic stability in the country.

For his part, the Transport Minister outlined the ministry’s current and future plans and projects aimed at developing the sector and enhancing service delivery, affirming his commitment to advancing the transport system and overcoming obstacles facing strategic projects that strengthen the sector’s capabilities.
