The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed today, Monday, the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, reaffirming that Iraq will continue its established role in promoting dialogue and bridging differences among countries in the region.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Ministry said:“We welcome the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America,” and emphasized its full support for all efforts aimed at strengthening dialogue and prioritizing diplomatic solutions in addressing crises and conflicts.
The Ministry added that, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Iraq, it extends its congratulations to the governments and peoples of both friendly nations on this occasion. It expressed hope that this step would contribute to strengthening regional security and stability and open new avenues for understanding and cooperation in the interests of the peoples of the region.
The statement reaffirmed Iraq’s longstanding and principled position of rejecting war and embracing dialogue and peaceful means as the sole path to resolving disputes. In this context, the Ministry noted that it had closely followed the negotiations and diplomatic efforts that led to the conclusion of the memorandum.
The Ministry also congratulated the governments of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the State of Qatar for their mediation efforts and support for the negotiation process, which ultimately contributed to ending military operations.
The statement further noted that Iraq has suffered greatly from the consequences of regional conflicts and wars, reinforcing its firm conviction that international and regional efforts must be intensified to prevent escalation and avoid the outbreak of new confrontations.
The Ministry expressed hope that this development would lead to a permanent end to the state of war and affirmed Iraq’s continued commitment to rebuilding and strengthening its relations with brotherly and friendly countries affected by the recent crisis.
It stressed that the region today requires collective action based on the principles of shared security and mutual cooperation to ensure lasting stability and meet the aspirations of its peoples for development and prosperity.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that Iraq will continue playing its traditional role in fostering dialogue and bringing regional states closer together, guided by its balanced foreign policy and its ongoing commitment to promoting regional understanding and cooperation.
The Ministry also welcomed the announcement of the imminent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to normal maritime traffic, highlighting its critical importance in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of oil and gas to global markets and supporting stability in international energy markets.
