FIFA President Gianni Infantino affirmed on Sunday that Iraq is capable of creating exceptional moments at the 2026 World Cup.
The Iraqi Football Association stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Iraqi Football Association President Younis Mahmoud met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the sidelines of the 2026 World Cup finals being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico."
"It was a pleasure to meet with the president of the Iraqi Football Association, Younis Mahmoud, and I congratulate him on his election as president. I wish him every success in this important role," Infantino stated.
"I also wish the Iraqi national team every success in their journey towards the 2026 World Cup after a four-decade absence from the biggest stage in the world of football," he added.
"I hope to see them mark this historic return with many special moments and inspire a new generation of Iraqi football fans," he added.
For his part, the president of the Iraqi Football Association, Younis Mahmoud, thanked FIFA President Gianni Infantino for the meeting and his praise.
