The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Adnan Faihan Al-Dulaimi, affirmed on Saturday that the Fatwa of sufficient Jihad contributed to halting the spread of terrorism and protecting Iraq and the world.

Al-Dulaimi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “On the occasion of the twelfth anniversary of the issuance of the fatwa of sufficient jihad launched by the Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani (may his shadow be extended), and the establishment of the Popular Mobilization Forces)PMF), we recall with pride that courageous historical stance that formed a national project , preserve the unity of Iraq, and protect its people and holy sites,we also stand with pride before the great sacrifices and immortal acts of heroism written by the sons of our people and our security forces in all their formations and branches, who answered the call of duty and recorded with their pure blood honorable epics of sacrifice and selflessness, to create a victory that will remain a shining mark in the history of modern Iraq.”

It added: “The fatwa emphasized the historical and national role of the supreme religious authority in protecting Iraq and the nation, as it contributed to stopping the spread of terrorism and extremism, and protecting Iraq, the region and the world,we stress that the rapid developments in the region make recalling the contents of this fatwa an urgent necessity to consolidate national unity.”

The statement continued: “Based on our national and constitutional duty as a legislative authority, we pledge to our people to support legislation and procedures to fairly support the families of martyrs and the wounded, to protect their rights and preserve their dignity, and to pass the Popular Mobilization Forces Law in fulfillment of the great sacrifices they made in defense of Iraq and its holy sites,we affirm that the fatwa of sufficient jihad will remain a bright milestone in the history of Iraq, a symbol of the unity and cohesion of its people.”
