Baghdad – INA
The Ministry of Transport on Sunday confirmed that all departing, arriving and overflying aircraft are safe, denying reports circulating about the crash of a passenger plane in Iraqi airspace.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry said reports of a passenger aircraft crash in Iraqi airspace were false, stressing that all incoming, outgoing and transiting flights remain safe.
It added that the 72-hour closure of Iraqi airspace was implemented in line with international safety standards to ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft amid regional security developments.
The ministry noted that the Iraqi government and relevant aviation authorities, including the Iraqi Airways and the Civil Aviation Authority, rely on continuous technical assessments and procedures to manage national airspace in accordance with international safety requirements.
It further said international recommendations regarding conflict-affected airspace support precautionary measures, including temporary closures, to safeguard aircraft and passengers.
The statement added that Iraqi Airways, in line with the Civil Aviation Authority’s decision to temporarily suspend airspace operations, has cancelled all scheduled inbound and outbound flights during the closure period, adding that coordination efforts remain ongoing to monitor developments and inform passengers of any updates regarding the resumption of flights.
