Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, stressed to Joshua Harris, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, on Sunday the importance of adhering to the provisions of the Strategic Framework Agreement between Iraq and the United States.

The Media Office of the State of Law Coalition leader said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, received Joshua Harris, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, at his office today. During the meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as political developments and the ongoing dialogues among political forces regarding the completion of the vote on the remaining ministerial portfolios.”

According to the statement, al-Maliki stressed the importance of consolidating political and security stability in the country and supporting the state’s efforts to enforce the rule of law and restrict weapons to official institutions in a manner that enhances the state’s authority, preserves security and stability, and safeguards the higher interests of the Iraqi people.

He also emphasized the importance of adhering to the provisions of the Strategic Framework Agreement between Iraq and the United States in a way that serves the common interests of both countries, respects Iraq’s sovereignty and the independence of its national decision-making, and contributes to developing cooperation in the economic, educational, cultural, and security fields, in accordance with the agreement’s provisions.
