The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nêçirvan Barzani, has extended his condolences over the death of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayadh, stating that Iraq has lost a major national and religious figure.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Thursday, Barzani said: “We extend our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy on the passing of His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayadh, one of the most prominent religious and scholarly authorities in Iraq and the Islamic world, who dedicated his life to knowledge, education, and serving society.”

He added: “With his passing, Iraq has lost a great figure who left a significant mark on religious and intellectual life, and who contributed over decades to consolidating the values of moderation, tolerance, and wisdom.”

Barzani also expressed his solidarity with the late scholar’s family, students, and followers, noting his appreciation for the contributions the cleric made to scholarship and to Iraq.
