Laith Al-Adhari, The head of foreign relations for the Sadiqoun Movement, said on Wednesday that control over weapons, as well as decisions on war and peace, should be centralized and placed under the authority of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Speaking during a special coverage program on Al-Iraqiya News, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Adhari said the current phase is laying the foundations for a strong Iraqi state and requires support for state institutions and the military establishment.
He added that The Religious Authority has called for combating corruption and restricting arms to the state, stressing that weapons management and decisions concerning war and peace must be centralized, while all security and military forces should operate under the authority of the Commander-in-Chief.
Al-Adhari said that the proposal by the Asaib Ahl al-Haq to separate organizationally from the Popular Mobilization Forces and limit weapons possession to the state is a national initiative that supports state-building efforts.
He added that the movement also supports the government's implementation of the agreement to withdraw coalition forces from Iraq, noting that the first phase of the withdrawal has already been completed.
Al-Adhari further said that one of the Sadiqoun Movement's main objectives is to prevent the Popular Mobilization Forces from being exploited for political purposes.
He noted that amendments to the Popular Mobilization Forces law require legislative guarantees and a specialized central framework.
