The US Chargé d'Affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris, affirmed on Tuesday his country's and President Donald Trump's support for the Iraqi government, praising the measures taken to restrict weapons to the state.

A statement issued by the media office of the National Security Advisor, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji received the US Chargé d'Affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris, where the two sides discussed the overall situation at the regional and international levels and the latest developments in the region."

During the meeting, both sides commended "the decision of the Coordination Framework supporting the government's measures to restrict weapons to the state, emphasizing that the Coordination Framework statement is a roadmap for the country's stability and for avoiding anything that harms Iraq's security and stability."

The statement continued: "The meeting also addressed the continuation of cooperation and partnership between Iraq and the United States, and the development of bilateral relations, in accordance with the common interests of both countries."

Al-Araji reiterated to the US Chargé d'Affaires "Iraq's firm stance on the ongoing conflict in the region and its support for the peaceful path as outlined by international norms and diplomacy."

For his part, the US Chargé d'Affaires affirmed "the support of the US government and President Trump for the Iraqi government," noting that "the United States supports a fully sovereign and independent Iraq, where the economy and development are the driving forces for Iraq and its people."

He emphasized "support for measures to restrict weapons to the state," describing the Coordination Framework statement as "a qualitative leap forward in consolidating independence and sovereignty for a promising future for Iraq."
