Baghdad – INA
Ministry of Water Resources confirmed on Monday that no sudden or unusual rise has been recorded in the water levels of the Euphrates River.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry said that, based on ongoing monitoring of water inflows, particularly in the Euphrates River, and joint coordination with the Syrian side regarding rising river levels, Water Resources Minister Muthanna al-Tamimi had directed technical and operational teams to mobilize efforts to receive incoming water waves and make optimal use of water flows within the Euphrates basin.
The ministry stressed that it had not recorded any abrupt or abnormal increase in the river’s water levels, adding that coordination with the Syrian side remains ongoing to continuously monitor developments related to water releases and river levels.
It further noted that any expected increase in water releases would be utilized to strengthen Iraq’s water reserves, particularly at the Haditha Dam, following the low storage levels recorded during the previous season. The ministry added that the measures are also aimed at securing water supplies required for the summer plan and for various other needs and uses.
