The Ambassador of Iraq to the United States, Nazar Al-Khairullah, emphasized to the Republican Senator from Montana, Tim Sheehy, on Thursday, the importance of providing support to the Iraqi army and the military institution to enhance the country's stability.

The Iraqi Embassy in Washington stated in a press release, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United States, Nazar Al-Khairullah, met with the member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, the Republican Senator from Montana, Tim Sheehy."

According to the statement, the meeting "touched upon the importance of developing the military and security partnership between the two countries, and working towards reaching mutual understandings to define the priorities of the next phase in developing military cooperation following the era of the International Coalition, in a manner that serves the interests of both nations."

The statement underscored "the importance of providing appropriate support to the Iraqi army and the military institution, considering it a fundamental factor in strengthening Iraq's stability."

The Iraqi Ambassador pointed out that "Iraq represents a pivotal axis in fighting ISIS and terrorism in the region, drawing on its long experience, accumulated expertise, and the intelligence it possesses in this field." He noted that "as a result of the open war it waged for twenty years against terrorism and the great sacrifices it made, the Iraqi people are among the most aware and motivated in the world to confront terrorism."

For his part, Senator Tim Sheehy expressed his "interest in Iraq," pointing out "the progress it is witnessing compared to the years he served in Iraq within the ranks of the U.S. Army."

He affirmed his "support for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries," noting that "there are significant opportunities to develop joint cooperation."

He also expressed his "anticipation for further success for Iraq on its path towards stability and democracy, and his looking forward to visiting Iraq soon."
