Iraqi Ambassador to Washington, Nizar Khairallah, met on Saturday with Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to discuss developments in the Middle East and their impact on Iraq, as well as prospects for cooperation between Iraq and the United States following the formation of the Iraqi government.
The embassy said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Iraqi Ambassador to Washington, Nizar Khairallah, met with Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee."
The statement added that "the two sides discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and their impact on Iraq, as well as prospects for cooperation between Iraq and the United States following the formation of the Iraqi government."
The statement continued, "The discussions covered a number of areas aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, including cooperation in the fields of energy, health, education, and agriculture."
According to the statement, Ambassador Al-Khairallah praised Senator Van Hollen's efforts in supporting bilateral relations between the two countries, while the senator expressed his interest in Iraq and affirmed his readiness to support and enhance cooperation in various areas of common interest.
