Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair affirmed on Saturday that the ministry aspires to achieve gas self-sufficiency by 2030, while also indicating plans to activate gas fields to reduce imports.

Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the halt in exports represents a major problem because a portion of oil production depends primarily on export operations," expressing his hope that "the war in the region will end in the coming days so that production capacities can return to their previous levels."

He explained that "there is no gas without oil, and the ministry's future plans focus on activating gas fields, including the Akaz and Mansouriya fields, in addition to Annex 5 and 6," noting that "Iraq possesses promising gas fields."

He added that "the ministry aspires to achieve gas self-sufficiency by 2030," stressing that "this also depends on the stability of the regional environment."

He pointed out that "the Ministry of Oil continues to support power plants during the current period, whether by supplying gas or other types of fuel such as fuel oil and crude oil," noting that "there are significant challenges in this regard."

He affirmed that "the government is striving during the current season to alleviate the suffering of citizens through cooperation between the Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Electricity to reduce disruptions and improve the hours of electricity supply for Iraqi citizens."
