Lebanon and (Israel) are scheduled to initiate a new round of peace talks in Washington on Thursday. The negotiations resume as the latest bilateral ceasefire approaches its expiration date. The truce technically remains active despite hundreds of casualties resulting from recent Israeli airstrikes.
On the eve of the diplomatic summit, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 22 people, including eight children, were killed on Wednesday following an intensification of (Israeli) aerial operations.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency confirmed that the Israeli airstrikes targeted approximately 40 distinct locations spanning the southern and eastern regions of the country.
