The Diyala Criminal Court issued a ten-year prison sentence on Wednesday against a man convicted of embezzling funds allocated for compensating the families of martyrs and those wounded in terrorist attacks.
The judiciary stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the Diyala Criminal Court sentenced a man to ten years in prison for embezzling funds allocated for compensating the families of martyrs and those wounded in terrorist attacks," explaining that "the convicted man embezzled these funds by issuing fraudulent checks, exploiting his position in the Diyala Governorate office."
It pointed out that "the verdict was issued against him based on the provisions of Article 315 / Section One of the Penal Code, and in reference to Articles 47, 48 and 49 of it concerning participation."
