The Director General of Iraq’s General Commission of Customs, Thamer Qasim Dawood, emphasized on Tuesday the importance of streamlining procedures in alignment with the state’s broader strategy to support the national economy.
According to a statement issued by the Commission and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Dawood held an official meeting at the الهيئة’s headquarters with Fayyad Mohammed Abdul Al-Dulaimi, head of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. The meeting reflects a governmental push to strengthen institutional integration and enhance oversight systems.
The statement noted that discussions focused on mechanisms to improve joint cooperation and elevate technical and procedural coordination between the two entities. The aim is to ensure the enforcement of approved standards and strengthen quality control measures on goods entering through customs centers, thereby meeting safety and consumer protection requirements.
Dawood underscored the need to unify efforts and integrate roles among relevant institutions to enhance institutional performance, promote principles of good governance, and simplify procedures in a manner consistent with national economic priorities.
For his part, Al-Dulaimi reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to expanding cooperation frameworks and exchanging technical expertise to support the Customs Authority’s efforts in applying quality standards and ensuring goods comply with approved specifications.
During the visit, Al-Dulaimi was briefed on operations within the customs operations room, including field and electronic monitoring mechanisms for tracking goods movement and the procedures implemented to strengthen oversight and ensure compliance.
The statement concluded that the meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce institutional partnerships, improve regulatory efficiency, and establish an economic environment based on quality and compliance.
