Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Sunday directed the competent authorities to receive petitions submitted by farmers and to initiate an inquiry into the conduct of security forces in their handling of the farmers’ gatherings.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s media office said PM Al-Sudani had followed the demands raised by the farming community regarding their financial entitlements, as well as incidents involving the dispersal of their peaceful assemblies by security forces.
Al-Sudani underscored the “pivotal role” played by farmers within the framework of national economic development, reiterating the government’s consistent approach to supporting this segment, responding to its demands, and facilitating the development of the agricultural sector.
He further stressed that farmers represent one of the segments most committed to maintaining constructive engagement and adherence to the rule of law in their dealings with members of the security forces, who themselves represent all components and segments of Iraqi society without exception.
