The President of the Republic, Nizar Amedi, on Sunday received a message of congratulations from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency’s media office, the message was conveyed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Iraq, Ildar Nadir, on the occasion of Amedi’s assumption of the office of President, in which Aliyev extended his wishes for success in his duties.

In his message, Aliyev expressed his “sincere and heartfelt congratulations” on the occasion of Amedi’s election, noting that relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq have witnessed “marked progress” and attained “advanced levels.”

He affirmed his confidence in the continuation of joint efforts to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and to broaden their scope in a manner that serves the mutual interests of their peoples.

Aliyev also conveyed his wishes for Amedi’s continued health, happiness and success in the performance of his responsibilities, for the benefit of the Iraqi people.

For his part, Amedi entrusted Ambassador Nadir with conveying his greetings to his Azerbaijani counterpart and expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the message.

The statement added that the meeting addressed avenues for enhancing bilateral relations, underscoring the importance of expanding prospects for joint cooperation in service of mutual interests, as well as reviewing a number of issues of common concern at the regional and international levels.

The President emphasized the importance of consolidating relations and expanding areas of partnership in line with the aspirations of both countries toward stability and development.
