Iraq’s Ministerial Council for National Security decided onMonday to prohibit any attempts to target Iraq or use its territory to launchattacks against neighboring countries or diplomatic missions, describing suchacts as terrorism.

In a statement following its third regular meeting, chairedby caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the council affirmed itwould confront any group operating outside state authority and pursue thoseresponsible through legal channels. It also reiterated the government’scommitment to restricting arms to state control.

On the protection of diplomatic missions, the councilstressed that any violation of the safety and security of diplomatic facilitiesis “unacceptable and unlawful,” adding that the government will take firmmilitary, security, legal, and administrative measures against perpetrators.

The council called for intensified coordination andcommunication with neighboring and regional countries to reduce tensions andpromote regional stability, emphasizing dialogue as “the primary approach tosafeguarding Iraq’s national interests and strengthening its regional role.”

It also called for enhanced intelligence-sharing and tightersecurity coordination to counter cross-border threats while supporting jointregional and international efforts.

The statement further called on neighboring countries to “refrainfrom allowing their territories to be used for attacks against Iraq or anyactions that violate its sovereignty, airspace, or territorial waters.”
