U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he has extended a ceasefire with Iran, citing internal divisions within the Iranian government and a request from Pakistan’s military and political leadership.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States had been asked by Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to delay any plan until Iranian leaders present a unified proposal.
“As a result, I have directed our Military to continue the blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able,” Trump said, adding that the ceasefire would remain in place until Iran submits its proposal and discussions are concluded “one way or the other.”
The U.S. president did not provide further details on the nature of the proposed talks or the conditions under which military action could resume.
