Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani offered his condolences on Tuesday on the passing of Sayyid Hussein al-Sadr, emphasizing that the deceased was a religious and resistance symbol against dictatorship.

In a post on the (X) platform, which was monitored by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Sudani said: "We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the esteemed al-Sadr family and to His Eminence Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim on the passing of the eminent scholar, His Eminence Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Sayyid Hussein Mohammed Hadi al-Sadr."

He affirmed that "the deceased (may Allah have mercy on him) was a religious and resistance symbol against the overthrown dictatorial regime. He also contributed to the establishment of the new democratic system, in addition to his distinguished social and literary standing."
