NATO Summit Final Statement: Alliance Leaders Stress the Need to Prevent Iran from Acquiring Nuclear Weapons

In their final summit statement issued Wednesday, NATO leaders emphasized the need to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The statement, released at the conclusion of the summit held in Ankara, Turkey, and reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the Alliance leaders reaffirmed the necessity of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons," and called for "respect for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law and norms."

The statement also indicated that "the leaders announced an increase in defense spending, pledging to expand the military industrial capabilities of member states, thereby enhancing their readiness to confront escalating security challenges."

Regarding Ukraine, NATO leaders reiterated their support for the country, announcing €70 billion in military aid to be provided through 2026, as part of ongoing support to address current challenges.

The statement affirmed the Alliance's commitment to developing its military capabilities, particularly in the areas of air and missile defense, thereby strengthening its deterrence and collective defense system.

The leaders emphasized their commitment to the principle of collective defense, stressing that an attack on one member state is considered an attack on all allies, in accordance with the Alliance's charter.
