The Supreme Judicial Council-SJC said on Sunday that investigations into the case involving Adnan al-Jumaili, Deputy Oil Minister for Refining Affairs, are continuing in light of the available evidence.

SJC said that legal measures would be taken against political figures and other individuals in the coming period in line with developments in the investigation.

The Investigative Judge at the Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption, Judge Diaa Jaafar, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the investigations into the case of the accused (Adnan al-Jumaili, Deputy Oil Minister for Refining Affairs) began in the tenth month of 2025, following the court's receipt of a number of reports containing allegations that a number of candidates had spent huge sums of money to support their electoral campaigns by exploiting state resources, with the support of influential figures in the previous government."

He added that "due to the importance and sensitivity of this crime, efforts to collect evidence and information continued for several months. Following the arrest of the aforementioned defendant, the course of the investigation revealed the involvement of a number of members of parliament in exploiting state resources for electoral campaigning and benefiting, directly or indirectly, from government contracts to obtain commissions and personal benefits for themselves and others, which necessitated investigating them and taking legal measures against them."

He continued that, "Based on the court's request and following communication with the Council of Representatives, immunity was lifted from the accused lawmakers by the current Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, pursuant to the powers vested in him under Articles (63/Second/C) and (7/Fourth) of Iraq's Council of Representatives Law No. 13 of 2018, Article (11/Second/3) of Iraq's amended Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, and Article (20/Third) of the Council of Representatives' bylaws."

He noted that "immediately upon receiving the immunity-lifting documents, and in cooperation with the Federal Integrity Commission and law enforcement agencies, and under the direct supervision of the heads of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Council of Ministers, the implementation of the arrest warrants issued against them and their detention was initiated. Funds and criminal exhibits proving their violation of the law were seized, while some of them remain fugitives. Investigations into this case are still ongoing in light of the evidence, and legal measures will be taken against political figures and other individuals during the coming period in line with developments in the course of the investigation."
