Qatar's Emir, Trump Discuss U.S.-Iran Understandings and De-escalation Efforts

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region during a phone call, the Qatari Amiri Diwan said on Thursday.

In a statement the Amiri Diwan said the two leaders reviewed the outcome of ongoing consultations and understandings between the United States and Iran as part of the negotiation process, which have resulted in progress on a number of issues under discussion.

The statement added that Trump said during the call that the U.S.-Iran understandings had received the approval of all relevant parties and the backing of several sisterly and friendly countries, including Qatar.

He noted that efforts were continuing to complete the final procedures ahead of announcing arrangements for the signing of the agreement.

For his part, Sheikh Tamim welcomed efforts aimed at resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means, reaffirming Qatar's support for initiatives that enhance regional and international security and stability and promote peace and cooperation across the region.
