US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that the “Operation Epic Fury” against Iran has concluded, announcing a transition to what he called “Operation Freedom Project,” while noting that US President Donald Trump seeks to draft a memorandum of understanding with Tehran.
In a press conference, Rubio said: “Operation Epic Fury ended once the President informed Congress and we completed that phase. We have now moved to Operation Freedom Project,” adding that the operation in Iran had achieved its objectives.
He added that Trump wants to formulate a memorandum of understanding with Iran addressing all major issues requiring settlement.
On Taiwan, Rubio said the issue would be discussed during Trump’s upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
He also noted that the United States has tools to influence Chinese companies that ignore sanctions imposed on Iran.
