Tehran says Iran-Oman talks over Hormuz productive
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says Iranian and Omani deputy foreign ministers held talks on the management of the Strait of Hormuz in Tehran on Friday and Saturday.
“The two sides exchanged views on common principles and operational mechanisms for managing safe shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz while respecting the sovereign rights of the two coastal states,” he said, according to the Tasnim news agency.
Baghaei said “the talks were useful and progress was made” and “technical and political consultations” between the two sides were ongoing.
CBS News, meanwhile, reported that talks between the two countries have made progress.
CBS cited two regional sources as saying that while things are headed in a positive direction, the diplomacy needs more time to reach a deal.
Omani officials travelled to Tehran on Friday for talks, and that diplomatic outreach coincided with President Trump's decision to pause US bombing after 13 consecutive nights of strikes.
The regional officials both indicated that the bombing was intentionally paused so as not to disrupt the delicate in-person diplomacy, the report said.
