Araghchi warns against using Iranian frozen assets, says it sets 'incendiary precedent'

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi cautioned that using a foreign country's state assets to pay for future claims could stir up chaos. 

"Seizing another nation’s assets to pay for unrelated future claims is an incendiary precedent," Araghchi said on X.

"Those who celebrate or profit from such funds should remember: once governments normalize confiscation, no one's assets are safe. Ensuing chaos will not be pretty or peaceful."

This follow US President Donald Trump's remarks on Thursday saying he would use Iranian funds to cover for any damage sustained to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
