The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that the launch of a free emergency number (911) service for visitors from outside Iraq contributes to enhancing security for both Iraqis and foreigners. The ministry also indicated that instant translation is available in six languages to facilitate communication with visitors from abroad.
Major General Raed Abdul Karim, Director of the Central Response and Control Directorate (911), told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "For the first time, the Ministry of Interior is providing a free emergency number (911) service via roaming for visitors from outside Iraq. This service aims to respond to emergencies immediately upon their arrival in Iraq, whether they are visitors, businesspeople, diplomats, or tourists, thus contributing to enhanced security for both Iraqis and foreigners."
He added, "There is high-level coordination between the Ministry of Interior, the Media and Communications Commission, the Ministry of Communications, and mobile phone companies on the technical side, as well as coordination between the various formations within the Ministry of Interior and other security and service ministries on the operational side."
He explained that "the Central Response and Control Directorate (911) provides instant translation services in six regional and international languages to facilitate communication, especially during the millions of visits and religious events, which enhances the provision of security services to all segments of society, both citizens and foreigners, considering that the emergency number (911) represents the link between citizens and the security services and the departments of the Ministry of Interior."
