The Directorate General of Intelligence and Security (DGIS) at the Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday the arrest of three suspects on charges of drug trafficking and drug use in Diyala province.
The Defense Ministry said in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA that field units from the Diyala Intelligence and Security Directorate, affiliated with DGIS, arrested the three suspects in the Bani Saad subdistrict.
The operation was carried out based on precise intelligence and in coordination with the Intelligence and Narcotics Control Division and the Bani Saad Police Station. The suspects were apprehended in a planned ambush in accordance with Article 28 of Iraq's Anti-Narcotics Law, the statement said.
Authorities seized quantities of narcotic substances, drug-use paraphernalia, and a Range Rover vehicle found in the suspects' possession.
The detainees and the seized items were referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the investigation and initiate legal proceedings.
