The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah Al-Numan, on Tuesday outlined the national foundations of the government’s project to place weapons exclusively under state control. He stressed that Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, views weapons regulation from a paternal and national perspective aimed at safeguarding the security of all Iraqis, emphasizing that the initiative is not intended to target or undermine any party but rather to unify the national security effort.

Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Numan said, “The Iraqi government’s vision, under Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, regarding the regulation and restriction of weapons to the state is based on a unifying national and paternal approach aimed at protecting the security of all Iraqis and reinforcing the foundations of comprehensive stability.”

He added that “the immense sacrifices made by members of the armed forces, across all branches and formations, in the honorable battles against terrorism remain a source of lasting appreciation and recognition by the General Command.” He noted that “the measures to regulate weapons and place them under the authority of the law and official state institutions are not intended to offend any party or diminish the role of any national force that contributed to defending the country and its holy sites. Rather, they seek to unify the national effort in managing the defense and security system to protect Iraq from any external threats.”

Al-Numan further stated that “dialogue and fraternal understanding with all national forces and parties are rooted in constitutional principles and the sound guidance of the Supreme Religious Authority.” He affirmed that “this issue is being handled with the highest degree of prudence and national responsibility, in a manner that upholds the authority of the state, preserves the dignity and sacrifices of its people, and denies opportunities to anyone seeking to create divisions within the national ranks or undermine the stability and development to which all Iraqis aspire.”
