The Coordination Framework-FC expressed support on Monday for the outcome of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi's recent visit to the United States, while affirming that it would not provide political cover for anyone found by the judiciary to be involved in corruption cases.
A statement issued by the Coordination Framework's media office and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said that FC held its 284th regular meeting on Monday evening at the office of State of Law Coalition leader Nouri Al-Maliki. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and leaders of the Coordination Framework.
During the meeting, Al-Zaidi briefed participants on the results of his recent official visit to the United States, including his meetings with U.S. officials and the understandings and agreements reached in several sectors serving Iraq's national interests.
The statement said the Coordination Framework expressed its support for the outcomes of the visit and backed the government in implementing the agreements and understandings reached, saying they would strengthen Iraq's international standing, safeguard its sovereignty and independent national decision-making, enhance its economic and security capabilities, attract investment, promote sustainable development and create employment opportunities.
The meeting also reviewed government measures to combat corruption. The Coordination Framework reaffirmed its full support for the government, the judiciary and the Federal Commission of Integrity in pursuing corruption cases, protecting public funds, recovering embezzled assets and holding those responsible accountable in accordance with the law.
It stressed that the alliance would not provide political cover for any individual found by the competent judicial authorities to be involved in corruption cases.
According to the statement, the Coordination Framework also emphasized the importance of adhering to legal and judicial procedures and ensuring that all those implicated, regardless of their affiliation, are subject to accountability in order to preserve the integrity of the anti-corruption campaign.
The meeting further reviewed the overall situation in the country, including efforts to strengthen political and security stability, improve public services and address economic and social challenges in line with the aspirations of Iraqi citizens.
